About Us

We are a family run sawmill based in a small woodland at the mouth of the Savary River in Morvern overlooking the Sound of Mull.

Savary Timber operates as a small-scale local operation, supplying fencing, cladding, framing and general purpose softwoods and a range of hardwoods to meet demand, primarily within the communities of Morvern, Ardnamurchan, Mull & Moidart.

Our timber is sourced from local, sustainably managed woodlands, with an emphasis on producing rough sawn and processed timber with a low carbon footprint, and a commitment to return a minimum of 1% of sales revenue back into the community.

We can custom mill types of hardwood and softwood to meet most requirements, so please do let us know if you have specific requirements, or cutting list.

Sustainable Operations & Ensuring Zero Waste

An important part of our mission is to work towards operating with carbon negative footprint, through investment over the next few years we aim to power the sawmill from 100% renewable energy.

All parts of every saw log is used, with slab wood (the exterior of the log) and other defective timber graded out during production and used for firewood. Sawdust is collected and sold as animal bedding, with any wet/ dirty sawdust left to decompose before being mixed with animal manure and used as fertiliser.

Timber Grading

At present we don’t supply graded timber (C16 & C24 certified carcassing timber to BS 5268), however all of our timber is actively inspected throughout the milling process. The logs are checked on delivery and assessed during the sawing process with any substandard sections/pieces removed.
